Manoeuvring a motorboat on flowing waters is more challenging than driving on lakes, as the current must also be taken into account. In our motorboat courses on the Aare in Solothurn, you will learn how to deal with the current and master all manoeuvres safely in this special situation. Training with this ‘additional difficulty’ makes you a complete and confident motorboat driver.
Lessons on our school boat take place from the jetty on Römerstrasse in the centre and very close to Solothurn railway station. You can easily reach the course location by public transport or by car via the A5 motorway junction.
The training takes place in private lessons. You can arrange the course times freely with your instructor. We train all day, including evenings, weekends and during the winter. During the training, you will learn all the manoeuvres required for the test, such as parking, man overboard, etc. Your instructor will ensure that you receive sound, targeted and comprehensive training. Depending on your previous knowledge and learning progress, the training lasts approx. 15 to 25 hours until you are ready for the exam.
Our Jeanneau Ocqueteau training boat with a 50 hp outboard engine is equipped with a sheltered cockpit and has heating. This ensures comfortable training at all times, even in wet or cold weather.
You usually take the official exam for the Swiss A licence on your training boat. It is conducted by a cantonal examiner and lasts approximately one hour. Before the exam, you will complete a one-hour run-in so that you can go through the most important manoeuvres again and get used to the weather conditions.
You can prepare for the theoretical exam through self-study. You can use the documents recommended by the shipping authorities or learning software from various providers. We will be happy to help you prepare for the theory exam.
