In our sailing courses you will learn the “craft of sailing” from the ground up. In addition to the maneuvers required for the cantonal examination, such as tacking, jibing, shooting up etc., wind and weather as well as seamanship are also part of the training program. Our instructors, who are experienced on the high seas, provide targeted training so that you will soon be able to set sail yourself and explore your sailing area on your own keel.
The D license is the license for sailing boats on inland waters. You need it to operate a sailing boat with a sail area of more than 15 m2 (Lake Constance 12 m2) in Switzerland. The D license is valid on all lakes in Switzerland and on border waters. For sailing boats with an engine of more than 6 kW (Lake Constance 4.4 kW), you also need an A license (motorboat license). The D license is also valid abroad if you want to sail as a tourist - on inland waters and in the protected area of sea coasts. The Swiss D license is an official document and is issued by the cantonal shipping offices. The sailing license can be obtained from a minimum age of 14 years. As with a car driving license, you must pass a theoretical and practical test.
You take the theory test at your cantonal road and shipping office. The theory test lasts a maximum of 50 minutes. The examination system is based on the multiple response method and is taken on the computer, whereby two correct answers are also possible. The exam contains 60 questions, each with three answers. Once you have passed the theory exam, you will receive an exam confirmation, which entitles you to make an appointment for the practical exam.
The practical examination lasts approx. 60 minutes and is conducted by a cantonal expert. The practical exam can only be taken after passing the theory exam.
This inland license certifies your basic skills as a recognized basis for the offshore license for sailing yachts and is required to obtain it.
With our learning kit in the practical Globesailing folder, you will receive all the documents you need to independently prepare for the theory exam for motorboats (A license) and sailing boats (D license). With the knot set included, you can also practise the knots for the practical exam.
You can choose from various starting points for your sailing training on Lake Zurich: Zurich-Enge, Wollishofen, Tiefenbrunnen, etc.
